Slavens School Fundraising

WHY DO WE FUNDRAISE AT SLAVENS?

Fundraising at Slavens is important, providing our children with opportunities that DPS is not able to fund such as providing Para-Professionals in grades K-3, supplementing staffing for Library, Drama, and Music, buying library books, providing staff development, family night programs, and many other projects that continue to make Slavens a wonderful place to learn. This year our budget shortfall is approximately $150,000 all of which must be raised by our generous community. A Fundraising Oversight Committee (FOC) was formulated to ensure that fundraising at Slavens is meaningful and successful as we continue to grow as a school and as a community. The goal of the committee is to provide a comprehensive understanding of fundraising events at Slavens. The FOC is a group of individuals representing faculty, elementary and middle school parents, the PTA, Friends of Slavens School (FOSS), and the Collaborative School Committee (CSC).

As new faculty, parents and students come to Slavens, new ideas are brought in, including new fundraising ideas. Any new fundraiser must be reviewed and accepted by the FOC. The committee has a Fundraising Application, which is available in the office. Our focus is to look at fundraising objectively, to ensure that all the events are successful, constructive and that they support the mission and philosophies of Slavens. If you have any questions regarding this process, please contact the PTA Fundraising Chair, Annie Humphrey, at 303-733-3838 or ahumphrey@comcast.net.

Goals
  1. To publish a Fundraising Calendar distributed once per year at the beginning of each school year. This will give parents a view of all school fundraising events already in place and provide a means for families to plan and make choices to financially support the school.
  2. To ensure each fundraiser that impacts the Slavens Community has a goal that supports the school's mission.
  3. To ensure all fundraising ideas are equally evaluated and placed on the calendar so that they do not compete with one another.
  4. To reassess existing fundraising efforts with the school's changing needs.

HOW DO I APPLY FOR A FUNDRAISER?

  1. Individual(s) with a fundraising idea should fill out a Fundraiser Application Form.
  2. After the application is completed it should be submitted to Annie Humphrey at ahumphrey@comcast.net or placed in her box at Slavens.
  3. Once the application has been received, a meeting with the FOC will be scheduled via email.
  4. At the FOC meeting, the person proposing the fundraiser will present their ideas while we can ask questions. The proposer will then leave while we discuss and vote on the proposal.
  5. A proposal passes with a 2/3 majority vote. If an FOC member is unable to attend our meeting, they will need to vote absentee.
